We Survived It. Now We’re Pretending We Didn’t.
Kim Fabian, Founder & CEO, Adonai Alliances
The pandemic didn’t just change media. It exposed it.
One month, you had a full client roster. The next, Travel and Tourism had gone dark. QSR was in crisis. National advertising — always the efficiency play, the reach‑and‑frequency machine — stopped making sense overnight because the rules were different in every state. A brand buying nationally was suddenly talking to thirty different realities at once, with one message and no room to adjust.
Local marketing answered that. A family in Chattanooga and a family in Grand Rapids were not living the same pandemic — and the brands that understood regionality, that a ZIP code is not a demographic, reached them. The ones that didn’t bought impressions against an audience that had stopped listening.
We learned something in those years. About the power of this industry to connect and to divide, to inform and to distort — to bring a culture together in one breath and fracture it in the next.
And then the mandates lifted. The offices reopened. The upfronts came back. And somewhere between the 2022 NewFronts and the 2023 scatter market, the industry decided — collectively, quietly, without a memo — that we were done talking about it.
We are not done.
Adonai Alliances exists, in part, because of what that season clarified. This work matters. What we place on the screen — and why, and for whom — matters. That is not a tagline. It is the reason I am still here.
What did it clarify for you?
